The exhibition will take as its starting point the intersection between art and architecture, artists’ utilisation of vacant spaces and a reimagining of city centre space in our current economic climate. This climate, as in previous recessions, has witnessed a turn in artistic practice. Once vacant spaces are being transformed into gallery spaces, used as artist’s studios and utilised for artistic interventions. This project will also use a large unoccupied space in the centre of Cork city and will feature a central exhibition curated by Aoife Flynn accompanied by a series of performances, talks and workshops. As a common thread, all the works consider ideas of architecture, perception, place and space.
